Fibertex - approved geotextiles for line specification NR-SP-TRK-010

Correct design and maintenance of embankments and drainage systems is vital if the effects of increased rainfall and changes to soil conditions are to be minimised.
Network Rail approved Fibertex geotextiles used under ballast in track works improves ground stability by reducing pumping. The filtration characteristic separates the construction materials and prevents the migration of sub-grade particles to contaminate the ballast. Fibertex geotextiles applied to filtration and drainage systems act as a filter helping to prevent the silting up of the drainage system and the pollution of watercourses from rain water runoff.
Geosynthetics Ltd recently supplied Fibertex geotextiles to the engineering track works taking place at Shap in Cumbria. The sub-contractor to Birse rail was having difficulty finding a geotextile that not only complied with the line specification NR/SP/TRK/010 (formerly RT/CE/S/010), but also held an approval certificate. This problem was compounded by trying to find a material which was available from stock in the UK. Geosynthetics Ltd supplied both Fibertex F-300 and F-330 for filtration applications as well as Fibertex F-400 as a separation geotextile. Other sites supplied include the works at Deppard Bridge, Harbury in Warwickshire and Chiltern Ford, Chearsley in Buckinghamshire.
