Network Rail approval for TIPS printing system

HellermannTyton has been given the seal of approval from Network Rail for its thermal identification printing system (TIPS) product range.

The TIPS system, appropriate markers (TIPTAGS) and printer ribbons have been awarded parts and document systems (PADS) numbers, demonstrating that the products are accepted for use on Network Rail infrastructure. PADS is a list of components aimed at subcontractors so they can use parts that have official approval. This is a highly regarded accreditation, in line with Network Rail’s strict criteria and commitment to only using products of the highest standard.

The TIPS system is a computer based method of printing identification information directly onto markers and products using thermal technology. This ensures a clear and resilient marking, which meets the needs of rail applications where all products used must be robust and able to withstand the demanding conditions of the installation.

TIPTAGS are used as part of the printing process. These are the components which the information is printed onto and then attached to cables. Using TIPS products, it is possible to have multiple lines of text with images and even bar codes, which is becoming increasingly important in many industries, as well as in the rail sector.

Compared to traditional methods of cable marking which can be labour intensive, the TIPS system saves time and subsequently reduces costs.

HellermannTyton has had an additional success with rail industry recognition of two cable tie installation tools. The MK7 and MK9 cable tie guns have also been given product approval for their ability to offer a safe and correct installation of cable ties in Network Rail infrastructure.

Kevin Bunfield, business development manager at HellermannTyton said: “All of HellermannTyton’s products are of the highest standard, so to gain recognition from Network Rail really highlights that we are achieving our aim of offering safety solutions. The TIPS system is a simple yet effective way of marking cables which offers flexibility for customers seeking the best products.”

These latest products to gain Network Rail approval join HellermannTyton’s cables ties with an outside serrated strap, which were commended by the Network Rail in 2006.
