Lets hope they do something about transfer between platforms. Doncaster is a nightmare.....

But when will the upgrade works take place at Doncaster station. Possibly early-mid next year or late next year. Might even be given the go ahead in the summer 2018.

I think Doncaster railway station does need a lot of improvements or at some improvements. It will be brilliant news for Doncaster & surrounding areas and the people who live in Doncaster will benefit a much nicer, bigger and cleaner railway station in Doncaster in the East Coast Main Line.

Pity they can't spend a little on access at Thorne North. The disabled cannot access or leave via the Goole bound side because it is all steps

The station is Victorian from a early era,modernisation is imperative.

Being a slightly disabled commuter with a 7am taxi booking from the station to work, I'd like to know just WHERE "in the station area" the taxi rank is going to be. At present I get off my train "over the back" on platform 4 BUT at the moment it's just feet from the sliding concourse doors to my taxi.

For the benefit of Cllr Bill Mordue - it's a RAILWAY station, not a 'train station'. And Andrew, when you say you think Doncaster station "does need a lot of improvements or at some improvements", are you a regular user of the station? What features do you consider particularly in need of improvement? What did you think of the opening of Platform 0 last year? Would love to hear your views.

I hope these improvements are just to the forecourt in all honesty. I like that Doncaster is one of the few large stations left with a human being making the announcements, as opposed to a garbling robot which feels the need to remind you every five seconds that the platforms are wet/icy/lava regardless of the weather and that anything bigger than a Greggs wrapper might be a bomb. Enjoy it while you can - it's a rare island of peace for the time being but will no-doubt be gone sooner or later in this "upgrade". Also, are there any plans to install barriers? It's probably the number 1 station in Yorkshire for 'Spotters so that may cause some contention. The reliability issues they face and delays they cause passengers won't help access either. The place definitely needs some improvements at its entrance though - as others have alluded to, connections can be an issue, especially in the peaks. The cynical funnelling of passengers through Frenchgate shopping centre at present is annoying too - better pedestrian access in other directions will be much appreciated. I'll humour Mark - Platform 0 is poorly signposted and endemic of the wider access problems the station has. I've caught a train from it only once, and ended up on the wrong side of the station - it was a lucky thing I'd arrived early to do some "Gricing!"

@Mark Hare. Well I don’t know why platform 0 was built. Possibly to be used for local rural services that Northern’s Pacer normally operates between Doncaster-Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Scunthorpe, Lincoln and Hull and to free up other platforms for other trains that do stop at Doncaster.

Unfortunately, no matter how much work, money, and effort they put in to the improvements of the station forecourt, it will still open out onto a dual carriageway, and the rear of a supermarket.
