A season of sensational events

Entries are now being taken for the fourth edition of the UK Rail Industry Awards (UKRIA), which will take place on 9 February 2017 at Battersea Evolution in London.
There are 23 award categories, all free to enter, covering all aspects of rail excellence and innovation.
The 2017 edition of UKRIA is going to be even bigger and better than the previous awards, and RTM is proud to confirm that Sir Peter Hendy will be the event’s keynote speaker.
Known for being outspoken and at times controversial, Sir Peter should provide the audience with a riveting update on the work and progress at Network Rail. He follows in the footsteps of Phil Hufton, the DfT’s Peter Wilkinson and Richard Parry-Jones, who have all delivered excellent keynotes in the past.
The event, which is organised by RTM, is a true celebration of the achievements taking place across the rail industry. And, having interviewed many of the winners over the last couple of years at previous editions of the awards, I know how important and valued they are by the people who have taken part and attended.
Details of the award categories are available in this edition of the magazine, with a special gatefold – so please take a look. If not, you can find all the information you need at: www.ukria.com
The closing date for entries this year is 25 September.
Before the next edition of UKRIA, RTM is also hosting two events in November. We are proud to be delivering the third edition of the TransCityRail North black tie networking dinner and the inaugural Northern Powerhouse Rail Conference.
The evening event on 10 November at The Palace Hotel, Manchester, once again brings together the leaders responsible for delivering Northern Powerhouse Rail for a lively and engaging networking dinner and panel discussion. David Brown, chief executive of Transport for the North (TfN), will give the keynote address. The two Q&A sessions will focus on Supply Chain Engagement and the future of Northern Powerhouse Rail. Both should be very lively and interesting debates.
Before the networking dinner, we are also hosting the Northern Powerhouse Rail Conference, which will highlight the economic benefits Northern Powerhouse Rail will bring to the region, as well as detailing what opportunities exist for the supply chain.
As well as featuring speakers from TfN, Network Rail’s Northern Programmes, National Supply Chain and Digital Railway the event plays host to a series of engaging workshops tailored to the needs of the Northern Powerhouse Rail community.
Information about the two events and how to get involved can be found at: www.railtechnologymagazine.com/TransCityRail. Alternatively, you can contact the team on: 0161 833 6320.
This edition of RTM also features our 33-page InnoTrans Preview, and lots more excellent content – so please read on and enjoy.
PS: As we went to the printers, we did so amidst a melting pot of industrial action right across the country’s railways. Due to the fast-paced volatility surrounding the negotiations, we haven’t included in-depth coverage of the strikes in this edition. But you can keep up-to-date with the latest developments on the RTM website.
