Welcome to this special Railtex 2013 edition of Rail Technology Magazine.
The RTM team is looking forward to what is always a fantastic show, with so much to see, a huge number of people to meet and catch up with, and a great programme of talks, seminars, discussion sessions and demonstrations.
So it is no coincidence that we have used this special 240-page issue of the magazine to launch our new branding, as you will see on the front cover.
A fingerprint is unique, and so is RTM, with our ABC-audited readership, huge reach within the industry, the £11bn budgets under our readers’ responsibility, our editorial board of senior industry fi gures, and our masses of editorial content.
We also use this edition to launch our own charity – another unique fi rst for a rail media title. UKRITT, the UK Rail Industry Training Trust, will reach out to young people to infl uence and educate them in the wide and diverse range of exciting career paths available in rail, from engineering to operations and from track to train.
The charity’s first activities will be to put on a series of engagement and educational events for young people around the country to promote the railways as a career option, and to explain more about the training and qualifi cations and apprenticeships available. You can fi nd out more on page 119.
I also want to draw your attention to UKRIA, the UK Rail Industry Awards – a new and exciting rail industry awards ceremony like no other.
It seeks to reward those organisations, large or small, who are making a signifi cant contribution to the effective and efficient running of the UK rail industry.
The inaugural awards next year will provide an ideal setting for you to network with some of the most infl uential decision makers responsible for running the UK rail industry, as well as generating business and making new contacts – you are promised a thoroughly entertaining evening.
The evening will also be a fundraising extravaganza for UKRITT.
Rail Technology Magazine has initially donated £5,000 to the trust, and has pledged a further 20% of all revenue generated from the UK Rail Industry Awards.
This has enabled UKRITT to set a fundraising target of £45,000 for the fi rst event, although this fi gure is likely to increase as support continues to grow. Find out more about the awards on page 118.
We look forward to seeing you at Railtex, where you can fi nd the team on stand B41: we’d be happy to tell you more about UKRITT, the UK Rail Industry Awards, and why Rail Technology Magazine is Britain’s rail industry media leader.
