See you in Birmingham
Source: RTM Apr/May 15
We have a specially expanded edition of RTM for you, as the industry gears up for the biggest UK rail show of the year – Railtex 2015.
Our giant show guide, which starts on page 97, tells you all you need to know about the things to see, hear, do and experience at the show, which has got a fantastic line-up of exhibitors, speakers and events.
The RTM team – as always – will be there at the NEC, talking to readers, advertisers and friends. You can find us on stand P41.
A look through our show guide will give you a good idea of which stands to make sure to see, as well as meetings to set up and talks to hear. The itinerary has some updates from interesting and worthwhile speakers, plus lots of technical seminars from specialists.
Confirmed for later this year is TransCityRail North, RTM’s own follow-up event to last year’s successful High Speed 2 The Northern Hub Dinner in Manchester. The black tie dinner on 12 November 2015 brings together businesses, government and the UK rail industry itself for an exclusive event to discuss a North of England-wide ‘TransNorth’ rail network.
Speakers and panellists include HS2 Ltd chief executive Simon Kirby, Network Rail strategy & planning director for the north, Jo Kaye, and head of Northern Rail, Alex Hynes. The event will once again by ably hosted by BBC transport correspondent Richard Westcott. Find out more on page 30 and online at www.railtechnologymagazine.com/TransCityRail
It was interesting to catch up with one of the attendees at last year’s Gen Y Rail event, put on by RTM’s UK Rail Industry Training Trust. Stephen Kelly, now 20, was full of enthusiasm for his apprenticeship with Network Rail, and said he’d have made the decision to choose a career in engineering even earlier had he had experience of an event like Gen Y Rail when he was younger – which is exactly what we want to achieve. Our interview with him is on page 37.
Thanks to all our interviewees, contributors, reporters and production team who have helped with this brilliant edition of the magazine, and all the rail industry people who’ve talked to us, shown us round their depots and facilities and sites and given us their time.
Finally, thanks to our photography partners, www.alveyandtowers.com for the gorgeous cover photo, taken at Polesworth, Warwickshire. Here it is in all its glory.
