New TfW director appointed for north Wales

Transport for Wales (TfW) has appointed Lee Robinson as its new development director for north Wales.

Robinson will lead the business unit in the north of Wales as it supports the delivery of the new franchise and several major schemes in the region.

The minister for transport and for north Wales, Ken Skates, said the government had committed to establishing a TfW business unit in the north from the outset, and that he was “delighted” Robinson had been appointed to lead it.

Skates added: “The Welsh Government is absolutely committed to seeing a real step change in transport infrastructure and services in north Wales and Lee will now take forward the development of exciting schemes including an integrated Shotton station and a new Deeside Parkway station.”

He said the position of director will also be important in supporting proposals for a Wrexham General integrated transport hub, currently being taken forward as part of a wider Mold Road Wrexham development corridor study.

“Lee has a strong background of working in north Wales and he will be instrumental in forming collaborative working partnerships throughout the region,” the minister for transport noted.

As part of the development of the North Wales Metro, the region will benefit from fully refurbished trains later this year and will also receive newly built trains by 2023 as part of an £800m investment.

Robinson joins TfW with nine years’ experience at Wrexham County Borough Council as director of economy and place, and has worked closely on developing the regional transport network in north Wales.

The new development director commented: “Over the next 15 years we will see over £5bn invested into the transport sector across Wales. This will have a direct positive impact on our local economies and communities, and it’s great to be part of such a new organisation with a holistic vision for Wales.

“I’m looking forward to using my broad experience to develop good working relationships throughout North Wales and across the border. Transport is essential to the social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing of Wales and I’m excited to start progressing with improvements in the region.

James Price, CEO of TfW added: “We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Lee Robinson as our new development director for north Wales. Lee brings a depth of experience and skills that will be vital to our future works.

“We’re at the start of an exciting journey at TfW to create a transport network that the people of north Wales can be proud of.”
