Railtex 2013 opens its doors

Rail minister Simon Burns MP has marked Railtex 2013 officially open.

Ahead of his keynote speech at 11.50, the minister called it an “important exhibition” and noted that in a digital age, face-to-face meetings were vital. He said there were bound to be ideas sparked and business relationships founded at the show.

Stephen Brooks, chairman of event organisers Mack Brooks, said the event was the biggest since 1997, with numbers up on the last show in 2011. He said there are 436 companies exhibiting from 17 countries, making it “truly an international event”.

Railway Industry Alliance (RIA) director general Jeremy Candfield also spoke at the opening ceremony, describing the enthusiasm of the rail industry and the supply chain to meet the needs of the future railway.

The first day of the three-day event kicks off with a packed programme, with project updates on the Rail Baltica Project and interactive discussion at The Platform, and visitors can see new products showcased at the Yard and on the Track when not meeting and greeting exhibitors on the stands.

Railtex provides a great opportunity for networking, and the awards dinner tomorrow night will be unmissable.

RTM is exhibiting at Railtex 2013 at stand B41, and will also be live-tweeting from the event – follow us @RTMnews and keep an eye on the #Railtex hashtag.
