Brown gives backing to high-speed rail
The prime minister, who has up until now kept quite about the government’s plans for high-speed, has made his boldest statement of support yet towards the project.
His opinions were expressed in Labour party documentation, which had been produced for the up coming Labour party conference.
There had been worries that the government would not back the high-speed project, which, if it went ahead, would mean the creation of variety of rail vacancies including engineering rail jobs, permanent way jobs and then of course rail jobs for those would staff the new infrastructure.
However the cost of the project had been seen as a major stumbling block, but despite this the prime minister has now been seen to put his backing behind it regardless, saying in a party pamphlet: “we are going to be part of the high-speed rail revolution sweeping across the world.”
