HS2 phase one bidder Fusion JV appoints AECOM as lead designer
Fusion JV, the joint venture between Morgan Sindall, Ferrovial Agroman and BAM Nuttall bidding to win HS2 civils enabling works contracts worth £900m, has appointed AECOM as its lead designer for phase one activity.
If the joint venture is successful in the race for at least one of three work packages, AECOM will draw on its experience of delivering high-speed projects globally, such as in Spain, and rail schemes in over 20 other countries – as well as its participation in Crossrail.
Dr Mark Raiss, engineering director for civil infrastructure at AECOM, said: “This is an opportunity for AECOM to bring its global high speed rail capability to a landmark UK project of national importance, working with Fusion to support HS2’s vision of making the project a catalyst for growth across Britain.
“Our work with Fusion builds on the long-standing collaborative relationships that we have with all three JV partners.”
The joint venture, a combination of each company’s expertise in design and construction, has formed primarily to bid for the HS2 contracts, which cover enabling works, surface routes, viaducts and tunnels.
It is running against six other joint ventures in the bid for at least one of three geographic packages, including the northern, central and southern sections of phase 1 between London and the West Midlands.
This is understood to be the first appointment of a lead designer amongst the seven running consortia, but Align JV (Bouygues Travaux Publics, Sir Robert McAlpine, Morrison Utility Services and VolkerFitzpatrick) and BBV JV (Balfour Beatty and Vinci) have already appointed project directors.
Representatives from all seven bidders also met up with the industry’s supply chain earlier this month to network with potential partners who show the specific capabilities needed to deliver works.
The formal invitations to tender will go out in the spring, with contract award expected later this year.
