TfL Rail celebrates improved performance on Liverpool St to Shenfield

Transport for London, the new operator of Liverpool to Shenfield services previously the responsibility of Abellio Greater Anglia, says it has recovered from the performance issues that dogged its first weeks in charge.

TfL Rail says it has hit its reliability target in four consecutive periods “by a comfortable margin”. The target was hit “only three times in the 13 periods before we began operating services”, it adds.

The latest performance figures, for 18 October to 14 November (period 8), put its PPM (public performance measure) at 94.8%, up from 92.1% for the same period in the previous year.

This has pulled its moving annual average up to 93.1%. The average has improved in every period since TfL took over in May.

On the more restrictive ‘right-time performance’ measure, the data for which is not guaranteed to be reliable, TfL Rail’s improvement was even more marked – 80.5% of its services in period 8 arrived at their terminating station early or within 59 seconds of schedule, up from 68.2% the year before.

There will be disruption over the Christmas and New Year period, however, because of planned blockades by Network Rail for Crossrail-related works.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “Some of the major work we need to carry out can't be done overnight and we need a longer period of time to complete these jobs. We'd like to thank passengers in advance for bearing with us as it could mean some changes to their travel plans.”

It's good that TfL have taken over the Liverpool Street-Shenfield metro line along with Liverpool Street to Chingford via Clapton, Enfield Town via Seven Sisters & Edmonton Green and Cheshunt via Seven Sisters & Edmonton Green Lea Valley lines and Romford-Upminster branch line with new trains being ordered from 2016 & 2017 including Crossrail ordering 66 brand new 9-Car Class 345 Aventra EMU trains and London Overground ordering 45 brand new Class 710 Aventra EMU trains that will also be used on the Gospel Oak-Barking line once the GOBLIN is electrified with 25kv AC Overhead electrification.
