Apprentice to Co-leading the Rail Sector Deal

In a series of Q&A’s with key speakers on the run up to TransCityRail Midlands, we caught up with TransCityRail panellist and Amey’s commercial account director, Anna Delvecchio, for her insight into what the Rail Sector Deal means for the rail industry and its supply chain. Anna started her career as an apprentice at the age of 16 in an electromechanical engineering organisation and most recently played a key role co-leading the Industrial Strategy Sector Deal for Rail, which was confirmed in December 2018.

With over 20 years’ experience working in rail, Anna fully understands the challenges and opportunities to the customer and the supplier and is an excellent role model for apprentices looking to progress their career in an industry bursting with opportunity.

Anna, can you explain the rail sector deal in a couple of sentences?

It’s a great example of cross-industry and government collaboration which sets out a well-defined strategy to provide greater improvement to customers using digital technology and data as a catalyst to increase productivity and drive innovation. The sector deal is not just about technology though. The sector deal focuses on seven key areas:

Why do you think events like TransCityRail are vital to the industry?

TransCityRail is the perfect platform to hear about the direction of specific areas of focus from key industry leaders, and a great opportunity to network.  It’s great that TransCityRail has seen the Midlands as a massive growth engine and expanded accordingly.
