Halfway point reached in major sub stations project
Siemens Transportation Systems has reached a major milestone with the delivery of half of twenty-four 25kV sub stations as part of an ongoing major contract with Network Rail to upgrade power substations across the network.
With all the installations due to be completed by spring 2008, main supply contractor Siemens Transportation Systems is working hard to remain ahead of time and budget on this vitally important Network Rail project which requires the highest level of attention from inception to delivery.
The new generation of self-contained power substations are essentially ‘plug and play’ substations. Most of the components are manufactured in Germany and then shipped to the UK where they are fully assembled and cold tested off site, craned into place with assistance from the local council where necessary and then installed, ready to use.
Jean-Philippe Macary, senior project manager for Siemens Transportation Systems said: “The success of this project to date is a major step forward in streamlined and fault-free installation, designed to minimise disruption to the rail network. The project team is committed to keeping this project on track, on time and within budget.”
Michael Flynn, infrastructure director at Siemens Transportation Systems, said: “This major project clearly demonstrates our expertise in not only providing leading edge electrification technologies but also in project management. The seamless delivery of these essential new sub stations with minimum disruption is a significant milestone and we’re dedicated to effectively completing the remainder of the project.”
