Network Rail announces winners of multibillion-pound CP6 contracts
Network Rail has awarded one of its largest deals under CP6, with three companies winning multibillion-pound contracts for both renewals and enhancements for the south of England.
The contracts, worth a collective £4.4bn, to deliver renewals and enhancements in Anglia, the south east, and Wessex have been awarded to J Murphy & Sons, BAM Nuttall Limited and Geoffrey Osborne Limited respectively.
The contractors will act as strategic delivery partners with Network Rail throughout CP6, beginning in 2019 until 2024.
The multi-discipline framework will deliver a number of different projects including stations, buildings and civils, electrifications, power, signalling, telecommunications, and track.
The south east will receive the largest investment of the three in CP6, with BAM Nuttall’s renewal contract worth an estimated £860m and up to £1.06bn in enhancements.
J Murphy & Sons’ contract for Anglia involves a total £1.27bn worth of work, and the contract awarded to Geoffrey Osborne for Wessex is worth £370m in renewals and £850m in CP6 enhancements.
The commercial director of the southern region, Cameron Burns said: “Given that we are delivering in some of Britain’s busiest stations and on some of the most used routes into the capital, our ability to upgrade the railway with minimal impact on passengers is increasingly important.
“We want to build on this success for CP6 and the relationships we have with our suppliers, and we look forward to working with them all going forward.”
The work is initially in place for five years during the control period, but there is an option of three one-year extensions if required.
Two of the successful bidders, BAM Nuttall and Geoffrey Osborne, already work in the region.

John Dowsett, managing director for infrastructure at Osborne, said: “Winning this CP6 framework is highly significant for us - it sees us further strengthening our rail portfolio and continuing to work with Network Rail, who recognise and value the collaborative approach we bring.”

This follows the first major contracts of CP6 being awardedv by Network Rail earlier this month.
