Angel Trains awards Railcare £20m overhaul

Railcare has won the £20m contract with Angel Trains to overhaul Class 165 and 166 Turbo trains.

The trains, in service on First Great Western and Chiltern Railways, will undergo an exterior re-paint and door overhaul.

The units will also be made compliant with Passengers of Reduced Mobility Technical Specification for Interoperability (PRSM TSI), through the installation of new accessible toilets, ‘call for aid’ buttons and passenger information systems and improved environment for passengers with reduced mobility.

The contract will run from September 2013 till April 2018 for all 96 trainsets.

Jamie Borgeat, commercial director of Railcare said: “We are delighted to be awarded this contract. We already have experience of undertaking the PRM TSI upgrade in conjunction with the C6 overhaul and are committed to ensuring that these trains are delivered with the highest quality finish whilst minimising out-of-service time”.

Kevin Tribley, chief operating officer of Angel Trains said: “This contract award to Railcare further demonstrated Angel Trains’ commitment to the enhancement of its assets throughout their life. The Class 165 and 166 vehicles will be the first of Angel Trains’ fleet to conform to the PRM TSI legislative requirements and we are very excited to be partnering Railcare on this programme”.
