Crossrail shortlisted for ‘Excellence in the Public Sector’ award

Investors in People has announced the shortlist for its inaugural awards, including the final four candidates for the Excellence in the Public Sector category.

That award is to be presented on the night by Roy Rowlands, business development director at Rail Technology Magazine and at Public Sector Executive magazine, who is also one of the judges.

The finalists for the Public Sector award are: Chelmsford City Council; City of Edinburgh Council; Crossrail; and the DVLA.

The shortlist for all 15 categories of the awards comprises more than 50 companies, and celebrates the best people management practices amongst Investors in People accredited businesses.

More than 500 entries from all over the UK and different sectors were received for the Awards, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony held on 23 June at London’s Landmark Hotel.

Paul Devoy, head of Investors in People, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the number and calibre of entries received for the inaugural Investors in People Awards.

“It’s fantastic to see so many organisations nominated, demonstrating great people management practice and a commitment to staff development. Our shortlist should be extremely proud.”

Three UK rail industry directors have been asked to join the judging panel: Roy C Rowlands, business development director at Rail Technology Magazine and leading government publication Public Sector Executive; Dr Francis Paonessa, who is leaving Bombardier at Derby to head up Network Rail Infrastructure Projects; and Crossrail’s director of talent and resources, Valerie Todd – she will not be responsible for judging the category in which Crossrail has been shortlisted.

Rowlands said: “I am delighted to have been asked to join the judging panel of this inaugural event. It’s very encouraging to see that so many representatives from the UK rail industry have been asked to join the judging panel and should be seen as a real vote of confidence for the sector.”
