Infotec in running for Innovation Award
UK designer and manufacturer of electronic displays for the rail industry, Infotec, is one of the three finalists for a business award designed to reward and encourage innovation.
In entering for the Enterprise through Innovation category of the Leicestershire Business Awards 2006, Infotec focused on its work that had created much-needed customer information display design that fulfils the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
In response to the need for a DDA-compliant system, Infotec produced an innovative design. It uses a 9 pixel high LED display tile that permits upper and lower case and full ascenders and descenders on letters, providing the legibility demanded by the DDA.
Infotec cleverly designed the 9 pixel high tiles with exactly the same footprint as the previous 8 pixel tiles. This means the many 8 pixel displays in use throughout the UK can be retro engineered to update them at minimum cost.
Prior to Infotec’s universal display controller design, customers produced the data they wanted to display and carried out the complex task of formatting it for display purposes. With Infotec’s new controller, customers simply send the data to the sign – from any source – and format it for the display.
It was these significant innovations that led to the decision to enter the Leicestershire Business Awards. The Award winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner in April 2006 at De Montfort Hall, Leicester.
Judges in the category are Alasdair Robertson, Head of Corporate Banking for HSBC Bank Plc, and Matthew Talbot, a Partner at Harvey Ingram LLP, heading up the Commerce and Technology team with his main specialist area being Intellectual Property.
Jeff Court, Infotec’s Managing Director, commented on the company’s success so far, “We are delighted with our success and think it is very much a reflection of the hard work of our staff and the co-operation of our suppliers and clients.
“Innovation is about finding solutions and everyone involved with Infotec is dedicated to this.”
