RSP awards PMS contract to boost rail data
The Rail Settlement Plan Ltd (RSP) has awarded a £7m contract to design, build and support a new Product Management System (PMS).
IT company IPL will take on the five-year contract to provide better fares and timetable information for ticket machines and information services. The move is part of RSP’s modernisation programme, to enable data to be stored, maintained and distributed.
PMS will allow the RSP to develop pricing strategies through scenario-based modelling, and apply regulatory compliance management in relation to fare and product creation.
Steve Howes, managing director at RSP states: “Rationalising and streamlining our IT and business operations will allow us to provide improved services to our customers by matching our own capabilities with clearly identified industry needs, such as support for new methods of ticketing and more flexible product types at significantly lower cost of ownership.
“To achieve our aims, it was crucial we selected a partner that was technically capable of delivering our vision, while bringing with them innovation and the capability to deliver agile and flexible services. From the outset, it was clear IPL shared our vision and would work closely with us to deliver the system we want and to provide significant cost savings over the lifespan of the project.”
Paul Jobbins, managing director, Public Sector at IPL says: “IPL has a long and established pedigree at delivering mission-and business-critical systems into both the public and private sectors. I’m delighted that RSP has recognised the values for which IPL is famous for and selected us for this demanding programme, which will not only realise substantial cost saving benefits, but also increase the service capability of RSP as a benefit to the general public.”
