ScotRail Foundation to fund £100,000 community projects
A new £100,000 fund has been launched to help Scottish communities support children or young people, or improve the environment.
The ScotRail Foundation will distribute grants of between £250 and £5,000 to groups seeking to improve their communities. Plans involving a local station will be prioritised.
ScotRail employees will select which community groups to support by volunteering to sit on one of three regional committees that consider applications twice each year. The fund will be managed by independent charity Foundation Scotland.
Staff working for the operator will also be able to apply for grant match funding for fundraising on an individual basis. Up to £15,000 of the fund has been set aside for this, with up to £250 per application.
Steve Montgomery, managing director of ScotRail, explained: “We are committed to helping communities prosper, and believe that we have a greater responsibility than simply transporting passengers from A to B.
“Stations are often at the heart of communities, and our successful Adopt-a-Station campaign is testament to this. We wanted to do more to bring communities together, something that would involve staff more directly.
“The ScotRail Foundation will enable us to provide financial support to communities across Scotland for many years to come.
“The match funding element is designed to recognise the sterling efforts of our many employees who already play an active role in supporting their local communities and other good causes.”
