Additional business for Freightliner Heavy Haul
Freightliner Heavy Haul Ltd has secured additional business for the rail haulage of up to 450,000 tonnes of coal per year into Sembcorp's Wilton power plant. The rail haulage arrangement will form part of the long term haulage contract that was agreed between FHH and EDF Energy last year.
The coal, supplied by EDF Trading, the UK based subsidiary of France's EDF, will be sourced from Russia, Colombia and South Africa through the Port of Tyne.
Semcorp Utilities UK supplies steam, water and industrial gases to major manufacturers from the Wilton site.
Martin Wilks, director of coal, Freightliner Heavy Haul says, "We are pleased to be able to develop our relationship with EDF Energy, to offer a flexible and committed service, enhancing the opportunities for both our businesses. FHH remains committed to further growth in the coal market through delivering a sustainable quality service with an ability to give bespoke solutions. We will continue to invest to ensure this reliability, demonstrated by our recent orders for additional resources, including a further 110 HXA coal wagons, 5 low emission class 66 locomotives and further recruitment of train drivers and groundstaff."
