Raising a fork for railway workers and their families
Many more active and retired railway workers in distress will receive the help they need this year as the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) holds its second Scottish Railway Dinner in Glasgow on Friday 22nd August.
The fundraising event, which started in 2007, raised a massive £14,000 for the railway charity last year, helping to bring relief to hundreds of railway workers and their families.
This year, the dinner, which is sponsored by Transport Scotland and supported by First ScotRail, will be held again at the Science Centre in Glasgow and the RBF hope to raise even more to support the railway community.
Tables at the event can be booked at a cost of £1,500 or single seats at £150, with all of the proceeds going directly to the RBF charity. Diners will be treated to a delicious three-course meal and a selection of games, a raffle and an auction will keep guests entertained.
David Allen, chairman of the RBF said: “The dinner provides an opportunity for railway companies and employees to give something back and assist railway workers who have fallen on hard times, through illness, disability or misfortune, while enjoying an evening out in the exciting setting of the Glasgow Science and Technology Centre.”
The Railway Benefit Fund is the only charity in Britain dedicated exclusively to providing support and financial assistance to past and present railway employees and their families. Last year, the RBF made grants of roundly £500,000 to help more than 700 families who found themselves on the “rough side of life”.
