3M steps up the war on graffiti
Rail commuters could soon experience graffiti-free travel zones thanks to a product innovation from 3M. In stark contrast to conventional time consuming and invariably unpredictable methods of graffiti removal from painted interior surfaces, 3M Scotchgard protector graphic film 8050 can be applied and continually cleaned in situ, with no ghosting or surface damage and in a fraction of the time normally required. The screen printable film can also be used to customise carriage interiors with special colours or patterns, whilst enabling rail operators to expand the potential for revenue generating advertising and sponsorship opportunities.
This conformable 60 per cent gloss film is supported by 3M’s renowned MCS™ (matched component system) warranty and 3M’s Scotchprint® premium rail guarantee. It is fully compatible with all approved rail interior cleaning agents, has been tested for use on most commonly used substrates and meets the fire safety requirements of BS6853: 1999.
In application, 3M Scotchgard protector graphic film 8050 can be used within category 1A, 1B and 2 rolling stock. It is impervious to post-cleaning staining by common contaminants such as cola, acetone and coffee, while its low glare performance characteristics enhance carriage ambience and contribute to a more enjoyable passenger experience.
The film’s outstanding capabilities as a graffiti-, chemical- and abrasion-resistant protective coating were highlighted in trials conducted by Metronet Rail on selected trains used on the Metropolitan line of the London Underground network. As a result of this product evaluation, 3M Scotchgard protector graphic film 8050 proved its value as a more cost effective option through which to keep carriage interiors clean and free of graffiti and is destined for wider use throughout the rail industry.
