Timetable changes bring extra services for west Wales

West Wales is set to benefit from extra services and carriages, Arriva Trains Wales has announced. The changes to the timetable have been made possible through the completion of works to replace Loughor Viaduct and redouble the Gowerton line between Swansea and Llanelli.

The additional services will start from May 19 and include 14 services calling at Gowerton in each direction Monday – Saturday (11 on Sunday); a Cardiff to Swansea ‘Swanline’ service extended to Llanelli, and a new commuter departure from Swansea in the evening peak period.

A new commuter service will be introduced from Cardiff – Swansea and all single-car trains on the Swansea – Camarthen – Pembroke route will be replaced with two-car trains.

Mike Bagshaw, commercial director for Arriva Trains Wales said: “These changes are good news for passengers in West Wales.

“We regularly review our services in partnership with Welsh government, other key stakeholders and by listening to our customers. Many passengers, including commuters and visitors to the area will see real benefits from this package of changes.

“These improvements demonstrate Arriva Trains Wales’ continued commitment to enhance services across Wales, making full use of Welsh Government’s investment in new infrastructure and efficient use of our fleet of trains”.
