Angel Trains leases to rail traction company three Bombardier Traxx DC locomotives
Angel Trains revealed at the rollout of the first Bombardier Traxx DC locomotive in Vado Ligure, near Genoa, that it has concluded a ten-year lease with Rail Traction Company (RTC) for three of these locomotives for operation across the domestic Italian network.
In 2005, Angel Trains ordered ten Bombardier Traxx DC locomotives, which have been manufactured at Bombardier’s factory in Vado Ligure and last month received their homologation for use in Italy. The vehicles, also known under their Italian type number E483, are designed to operate on the 3kV DC Italian network. With installed power of 5.6 MW, the latest SCMT signalling system and a high degree of commonality with the other Traxx family locomotives, these locomotives are well equipped for operators such as RTC wishing to exploit efficiently the potential of the domestic Italian freight market.
Tim Jackson, Director, Angel Trains International said: - “This is a breakthrough deal for Angel Trains in Italy which consolidates our leading role in the Italian market. We are delighted to have Rail Traction Company, one of the most respected independent Italian rail freight operators, as a new client and as our launch partner for this new product, which adds further diversity to our European locomotive fleet. Now consisting of over 250 vehicles including AC, DC and multi-system electric locomotives, capable of running with seamless interoperability on key
corridors, and over one hundred and fifty diesel locomotives with a range of power outputs, national certifications and cabin configurations, Angel Trains Cargo offers the most comprehensive fleet of leased locomotives in an increasingly dynamic rail freight sector.”
Giuseppe Sciarrone, CEO of Rail Traction Company added:
“After having consolidated our presence across Brennero and Tarvisio passes, we are are continuing our expansion towards Southern Italy. We have selected the best product in its class to serve those long distance routes and have appreciated Angel Trains’ ability to provide an outstanding and suitable locomotive on lease in record delivery time, we are therefore pleased to be the launch client for this new locomotive and to be leasing this from Angel Trains”.
The first E483 locomotive will be delivered to RTC later this month, with the remaining seven units, the lease of which is currently under discussion with several potential lessees, due to be delivered by the end of the year.
