Sabre Rail Services

Sabre Rail has provided the one of the UK’s leading bogie component repair services since 1987 and this year celebrates 20 years success. Built on vast experience in the aftermarket, the company now manufactures and supplies a wide range of components. Sabre Rail offers complete braking systems, third rail current collection equipment and, very recently, a complete range of long-life hydraulic dampers.

This year marks another step forward with the launch of their Pegasus range of hydraulic railway dampers. This truly innovative product has been developed by engineers who have a lifetime of knowledge in rail vehicle suspension systems.
Hydraulic dampers are often cited as one of the components which fail first on a bogie between service intervals. At the same time, failed dampers are notoriously difficult to detect. Only a badly leaking damper can easily be identified at an examination and no clues are given by external appearance as to how well the damper is performing and hence how well the vehicle is riding for passengers. A poor performing damper not only harms ride quality, but can have a major impact on the wear rates of bogies, brake rigging and wheelsets.

Sabre Rail is offering a solution to the problems many operators encounter, by introducing Pegasus dampers, which will herald a major step forward in damper reliability. Pegasus dampers are offered with comprehensive warranties which cover the units for up to one million miles in service. Each damper is specifically designed for the application, whether it is a light rail vehicle, multiple unit, locomotive or coaching stock.

The strength of the design team at Sabre Rail, which includes staff recruited from other leading manufacturers, has given customers the confidence that the product is an optimised design. The product range includes primary and secondary vertical, lateral, yaw and intercar dampers. Sabre are currently still working on designs for load conscious and multiple stage dampers which they hope to launch later this year. Testing has been carried out for over two years to verify all elements of the design, and the benefit of each element to the performance of the product. Several patents have been applied for in the development of this technology.

Sabre Rail has another major advantage in being the only damper manufacturer based in the UK. No other railway damper manufacturer is able to offer the UK such a local service support function. Sabre Rail has already begun exporting this product as the need for an ultra reliable and maintenance free product is one that has already been identified by many operators around the world.
Whether the need is for replacement of tired, life-expired dampers at bogie overhaul or for a completely new suspension design, Sabre Rail can provide the damping solution for your suspension problems.
