The confirmation of HS2 will come as welcome news for many in the rail industry; representing faster connections, a vital boost to capacity and the opportunity for thousands of new jobs.
The legislation will now be introduced, in the face of considerable opposition and a timeline and business case that many have criticised.
Perhaps now the energy and funding that has been put into challenging the Government on HS2 could be spent on ensuring the project is as successful as possible, with minimal damage to neighbouring communities and wildlife.
