Serco wins on train monitoring data analysis system contract
Virgin West Coast and ALSTOM have selected Serco to design a Data Analysis System for the Pendolino Trains' On Train Monitoring Recorder (OTMR) equipment.
The Design and development is being undertaken by Serco Rail Technologies, the division of Serco that specialises in the provision of bespoke asset condition solutions for the rail industry.
The system will include intuitive analysis and visualisation toolsets to analyse the in-vehicle status monitoring data logged by the existing OTMR. This will enable the operator to maximise the use of previously untapped data to provide a more detailed approach to both driver standards compliance and vehicle component monitoring.
The information gathered will also be used to provide a metric for continuous improvement in service levels, a necessity for ISO 9000 accredited organisations such as Virgin West Coast and ALSTOM.
Virgin West Coast’s fleet director, Ross Spicer, said, “This pro-active approach to vehicle component failure identification and best practice driving techniques will make is possible for Virgin West Coast and ALSTOM to achieve significant improvements in fleet management, availability and reliability of service; all of which will ultimately provide a better customer journey experience.”
