HS2 awards intelligent information system contract to Siemens Mobility

Siemens Mobility has secured a landmark £47 million contract with HS2 to provide a cutting-edge station information management system across all four initial HS2 stations: Curzon Street, Interchange, Old Oak Common, and Euston.

This technology, known as Digital Station Manager, aims to bring a seamless travel experience for passengers.

“We at Siemens Mobility are on a mission to transform rail travel and transport, with the imagination and ambition of 5,000 UK employees", says Rob Morris, joint-CEO at Siemens Mobility UKI.

Digital Station Manager, which has already proven successful on London's Elizabeth line, will encompass every aspect of the passenger journey within the stations. This includes real-time train information and platform announcements. However, it also has the capability to trigger fire alarms and act as a passenger assistance system.

Kim Kapur, stations client director at HS2 Ltd said: “Station systems such as the public address, information and fire alarms play a vital role in the smooth running of all modern railways stations – providing clear information to passengers and staff to de-stress journeys and ensure safety throughout. Siemens have a clear track record of delivering state-of-the-art station systems and we look forward to working with them – and their team at Ashby de-la-Zouch.”

Siemens Mobility will work closely with its supplier network, with 47% being UK-based SMEs, alongside HS2 Ltd and other contractors. A significant portion of the process, from design to supply, will be overseen by Siemens Mobility. They confirmed this to include testing at their Ashby laboratory facilities before on-site commissioning.

Morris added: “We have a significant presence in Ashby and are delighted as a result to be working in close collaboration with HS2 and our supply chain partners to deliver this landmark project.

“Not only will it be delivered at Ashby, here in the UK, by the next generation of engineers, it will also help create jobs and provide a boost to the local economy.”
