Scotland setting the standard, according to report

A survey of rail services in Scotland, which was commissioned by Transport Scotland has found that services have improved again this year.

The report, which is now in its third year, monitors a variety of variables such as station quality. Additionally a recent passenger survey found that overall satisfaction with rail services was higher in Scotland, than the UK average.

Bill Reeve, director of Rail Delivery, Transport Scotland said: “Through its demanding regime SQUIRE continues to lead the way in ensuring rail passengers across Scotland receive good customer service and facilities.

“The penalty and reward system requires that ScotRail, as part of its franchise agreement, delivers on issues regarded important by the public. Over the past twelve months ScotRail has improved its performance in a number of areas, and Transport Scotland will continue to highlight below benchmark results to ensure this system continues to confront issues as they arise.

“It is also gratifying to note that in the National Passenger Survey overall customer satisfaction remains at a record high, and that for a second year in a row ScotRail has received the accolade of UK Rail Operator of the Year, and I am sure that SQUIRE has contributed to these consistencies.

“As it moves into its fourth year, we aim to build on the strength of this Scotland-wide SQUIRE regime to further benefit passengers across Scotland.”
