Highways England procurement boss moves over to HS2

David Poole has been appointed as the new procurement and supply chain director at HS2 Ltd.

Poole will lead HS2’s procurement and supply chain teams as the project continues into its construction phase.

He will join the organisation following his role as executive director, commercial and procurement, at Highways England, where his responsibilities included contracting, procurement, commercial assurance, governance and efficiency delivery across a £3.5bn per year of supply chain spending.

Previously, Poole was the supply chain director at GE Aviation Systems and Flight Control Systems, leading their commercial and supply chain activity.

Mark Thurston, HS2 Ltd chief executive said that he was a “delighted” by the appointment.

“His experience of managing large scale procurement and complex supply chains will be invaluable as we continue to recruit the contractors we need to deliver the railway on time and on budget,” he said.

“This includes four new stations, railway systems and the state-of-the-art trains that will run on them.”

Poole, who will be based at HS2 Ltd’s Birmingham headquarters, will report directly to the chief finance officer.

He added: “HS2 will transform the experience of rail travel for huge numbers of people across the UK and provide a major boost to economic growth.

“I am excited to be joining the project at such an important time its development and look forward to getting started.”

He is expected to commence his new role in mid-March.
