RTM previews Giken’s brand new product, a revolution in embankment technology

Whether your embankment or cutting needs stabilising, improving or enlarging, additional land take is a major consideration. Either you need space to allow access to the works or you need land for enlarging the works.

Giken’s GRB (Giken Reaction Base) system provides alternatives. The use of the piled Giken Wall as a means of access for all plant and materials allows access within your existing land footprint. Additionally by allowing construction within your existing footprint the space currently unused by the embankment or cutting slope can be utilised to increase the width of your serviceable area.

By replacing the slope with a vertical retaining wall the area taken up by the slope can be fully utilised for additional track capacity. Due to the inherent safety applicable to Giken’s technology, where the piles pass through the Silent Piler, there is no risk of a pile falling onto or near the tracks. The Clamp Crane which follows the self moving Silent Piler along the wall as it is installed is equipped with slew restrictors to ensure the crane only operates in the 180° arc away from the track.

This enables construction to be carried out whilst trains are passing normally. Substantial works can be carried out without possessions and the costs and difficulties associated with possession work can be avoided. Without the need for sophisticated temporary access systems and platforms work can be completed safely, economically and speedily.

Should work at night be essential the Silent Piler operates as its name suggests without noise. As the Silent Piler is also vibration free there is no risk of vibration induced damage to valuable infrastructure. With the Gyro Piler able to penetrate the hardest ground conditions many options for infrastructure repair and improvement are available.

Respect for the environment is a standard that Giken start with, Noise-free, Vibration-free and with minimum space requirements all give clients advantages in ever more difficult situations.

In an industry where getting there on time is a pre-requisite working along side running services rather than between them or instead of them is an “all win” situation. Over 15 years in the UK construction industry, Giken Europe BV have developed a reputation for completing projects to cost and programme under challenging conditions.
