Four bidders short-listed for London Rail Concession

Source: Rail Technology Magazine June/July 2006

Transport for London (TfL) has announced that four companies have been short-listed to proceed to the next phase of the bidding process for the London Rail Concession, a project, due for completion in 2010, which will comprise the operation of the North London Railway and the extended East London Line.

Govia, MTR Laing, National Express Group and Nedrail have all been short-listed to receive an invitation to Tender. TfL selected these organisations based on an assessment of how their experience could be applied to deliver TfL’s objectives for the London Rail Concession.

Managing Director for TfL London Rail, Ian Brown, said, “This is the first milestone in the process to appoint the best operator to run the North London Railway routes and the East London Line extension. The four organisations we’ve short-listed are all strong candidates and we look forward to receiving their bids in the coming months.”

TfL will issue these bidders with an Invitation to Tender later this year. The successful bidder will be announced in Spring 2007.

The new operator will be expected to deliver a major upgrade of the routes and deliver high frequency and reliable services, with good levels of customer service and cleanliness.
