Britain's Transport Future Unveiled at the Civils 2008 Forum

In a late addition to the outstanding speaker programme at the free-to-attend Civils 2008 Forum (18 to 20 November at Earls Court 2 London), Michael Hurn, Director of Projects at the Department for Transport (DfT) will deliver the keynote address at 10.30am on Wednesday, 19th November entitled "Sponsorship of Major Rail Projects".

Calling on his extensive experience in the sector, Michael Hurn will outline the DfT's role in helping to deliver some the Country's most prestigious rail projects including Thameslink, Crossrail and King's Cross before going on to explore the future for rail and road project sponsorship more generally. Later in the same day's programme, which explores the overall theme of Transport and Infrastructure, Phil Wilbraham, BAA, Programme Director, Heathrow East is discussing the future for air travel in today's increasingly environmentally conscious 21st century.

Carefully themed to enable attendees to easily identify topics most relevant to their needs, the Civils Forum will also focus on Cities, Living and Regeneration on day one (18th November) and the Energy and Environment on the final day (20th November). Keynote speakers on day one include climate change expert Charles Secrett, on Sustainable Cities and Climate Change and architect Sir Terry Farrell, Principle of Terry Farrell & Partners on Cities for the Future, while Tony Juniper former Director of Friends of the Earth will talk about Building a Sustainable Economy on day three.

"The Civils Forum will be the thought leadership event of 2008 and everyone from the industry is invited to come along and join in the debate," says Civils event manager, Gerry Sherwood. "It is the perfect place for civil engineering clients, consultants, contractors and supplier companies to connect and engage."

Complementing the Forum is a busy schedule of over 20 informative and topical seminars running in two parallel theatres, and covering a wide range of civil engineering topics including: harvesting rainwater through permeable paving systems; combating plant theft; becoming a tunnelling engineer and career opportunities in the subsea industry.

Registration for the Civils 2008 Forum conference, seminar programme and exhibition are all free. To register online go to www.civils.com or call 020 7728 4687 or 020 7728 3924
