‘Euston Cross’ alternative HS2 plan
Source: Graeme Phillips (personal view)
I am very pleased with the proposal for the Euston Cross option.
The only thing I think is a bit short-sighted is the wording in the proposal that suggests that only one of the platforms would be suitable for GC gauge trains (I’m not sure if this interpretation is correct).
As HS2 travels further north, an increasing proportion of the trains will run on GC gauge infrastructure only, making it worthwhile for more future train purchases to be GC gauge.
Andrew McNaughton's original vision seemed to be of a network becoming increasingly segregated from the classic infrastructure over time.
It therefore seems short-sighted to have only one Euston Cross platform being compatible with GC trains.
If anybody opposed to HS2 on account of the damage to Camden reads this posting, I believe this proposal is a great compromise between reducing the damage to Camden and giving the increased rail connectivity that HS2 will provide. I urge you to get behind the Euston Cross option without delay.
