HS2 compensation

Source: Rod

HS2 will be 1km from my home so I am an unashamed NIMBY. There are many more SEBYS (That is: HS2 is fine just as long as it is in Someone Else's Back Yard).

The real fight is to preserve our precious Chilterns and avoid the years of destruction during construction. The Government is scratching around to find £5bn to stimulate the economy and improve infrastructure. Just think what could be done with £33bn which will otherwise be spent on a very questionable project.

As for compensation? For the vast majority like me it does not exist.

Totally agree with you, Rod. There are a lot who 'support' HS2 who really just seem to welcome the chance to have a go at the 'rich nimby'. Well here's a shocker - it's your money !!!

I'm neither a NIMBY, nor a SEBY! However I do think that it is a scandalous waste of Public Money just to save 20 minutes getting to Birmingham or 30 getting to Manchester! The Premium Fares to be charged would be paid on expense accounts, not by those using their own cash! Who the heck wants Euslesston anyway? Paddington has more space and would be better and up the GW and GC Joint to Ashendon Junction, then over to the GC and on up via Rugby and then Birmingham and Manchester or straight on and Leicester, all using existing formations The Erewash Valley, Sheffield and Leeds. Freight overnight and a decent service to be used by everyone, not just the Expense Account Few!
