Virgin vindicated

The outcome of recent events on the West Coast ultimately bring about a feeling of fair play. Having experienced the facilities offered by Virgin Rail over the years, I formed the view that many of its ‘problems’ were caused from collateral damage.
Its services run through some of the most congested areas, where delays have frequently been the result of its paths not being cleared through late running by other operators. Equally, the equipment provided has been constrained by decisions outside of its control.
The Virgin Rail team appear to be an efficient and cohesive business unit – led by a loyal, thrusting and extrovert chairman, which must be an inspiration. Let us hope that, with a level field and fixed goalposts, they can help to continue to develop and deliver part of the excellent rail service that the UK has recently been able to enjoy.
