NR puts support behind RISQS under new suppliers
The rail industry will now only be required to subscribe to one supplier assurance scheme, the Rail Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS), as Network Rail today announced new arrangements for the delivery of the system.
RISQS describes itself as the “single entry point” for suppliers selling into the rail industry, and is used to help companies sell in an open, fair and transparent way.
Network Rail has today put its full backing behind the scheme, saying that it is now the only point of call for suppliers and members of the rail industry for assurance.
Network Rail’s head of commercial, process & governance for route services, Ken Blackley, said: “Network Rail continue to support the Rail Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme and RISQS shall continue to operate, albeit administered by a new supplier from May 2018.
“RISQS is a scheme by the rail industry, for the rail industry and suppliers will not be required to subscribe to any scheme other than RISQS.”
Under the new arrangements, RISQS will be delivered by two contracts managed by the RSSB on behalf of the industry.
From 1 May 2018, Altius VA will provide IT, verification and management services, whilst Capita will deliver audit services.
The RSSB has said that the new service providers will improve RISQS by introducing a new, easy-to-use platform with more functionality to replace the current IT system; provide the ability to integrate with buyer systems; respond more quickly to changes in industry requirements; and improve cost-effectiveness to make RISQS fairer, more transparent and provide better value for money.
It will also work more closely with the Rail Supply Group, the Rail Delivery Group and other industry bodies to identify how RISQS could be a platform to promote UK rail exports after Brexit, and introduce the ability to access data in the scheme for industry learning.
Bench testing of these enhancements is reportedly progressing well, with the RSSB adding that “many of the improvements will be demonstrated to members at a series of countrywide events in October and November.”
