AB Connectors supplies new harness design to Transys Projects

Leading connector manufacturer, AB Connectors, has secured a major contract to supply inter-car jumper harnesses to turnkey enhancements provider, Transys Projects. The harnesses will be fitted to class 321 and 315 trains for ONE and will allow essential onboard monitoring data to be fed smoothly between carriages to update Passenger Information Systems (PIS) and CCTV.

AB Connectors, in conjunction with the Transys Projects engineering team, has created a special single-harness design which differs from the standard formations of one fixed jumper with one harness and one jumper with two fixed harnesses. The new design offers significant cost savings over alternatives whilst ensuring high reliability and ease of coupling and uncoupling for depot staff. This versatile product provides the path for valuable additional through trainwires and is now available for similar applications throughout the rail industry.

Passenger Information Systems and other through-train data busses are becoming vitally important as they provide important safety and security information, which in turn deliver a valuable part of train operators’ safety policies. Given the increasing level of regulations stating that all trains should have working visual information systems as well as audio systems, AB Connectors is developing a range of products which respond specifically to the needs of the rail traction industry.

Steve Jones, sales and marketing manager at AB Connectors, commented, “We have made a number of innovative design and material improvements to jumper harnesses which we believe will provide initial cost and reliability benefits and ultimately reduce operating costs. We are delighted to be working with Transys Projects and offer our products as platforms to provide custom-engineered solutions, significantly reducing customer development time, costs and risks. ”

All AB Connector’s products are designed to withstand the hazardous conditions of rail applications and can resist vibration, variations in temperature and corrosion. The inter-car jumper assemblies have robust designs incorporating heavy-duty castings, contacts and cables and all harnesses are manufactured using zero halogen, a material which does not produce harmful or toxic fumes in the unlikely event of a fire.
