AEA Technology Rail and Faiveley Transport awards
Rail Safety and Standards Board has accredited AEA Technology Rail as a Railway Industry Supplier Approval Body (RISAB) under the new Railway Industry Supplier Approval Scheme (RISAS) to encourage quality, safety and reliability improvement in the supply chain.
RISABs are required to demonstrate a thorough appreciation of key issues in the areas of risk in a railway environment including appropriate technical and assessment competence. Assessments of suppliers are comprehensive and focused on the specialised nature of the industry’s requirements.
Faiveley Transport Birkenhead Limited has been confirmed as an Approved Supplier for the overhaul of Braking Equipment and is one of the first suppliers to be assessed by AEA Technology Rail.
Both companies have been involved in developing RISAS and in meeting the scheme standards. Following on from the successful pilot assessments at the beginning of the year full accreditation to assess a wide range of scheme products was awarded to AEA Technology Rail in June and Faiveley Transport in July respectively.
Ian Papworth, Chair of the RISAS Board commented ‘I am delighted to announce the accreditation of AEA Technology Rail as one of the first RISABs and the approval of Faiveley Transport. It demonstrates commitment to the scheme and brings with it growing assurance and accountability to customers within the industry.’
Stuart Hill, managing director of AEA Technology Rail said, “RISAS is an important scheme that will help reduce the cost and timescale of procurement within the rail industry, while maintaining a very high standard of safety. It is testament to AEA Technology Rail’s involvement with the pilot, and to our experience in the area of rail safety, that we are among the first to be granted RISAB status.”
Neil Wilkinson, managing director of Faiveley Transport said, “For key suppliers like Faiveley Transport Birkenhead Limited providing critical materials and services there has become within the industry an ever-increasing need to standardise on one approval and audit process. The introduction of RISAS has allowed Faiveley Transport to demonstrate to the industry that it has attained the highest standards which satisfy the Train Leasing.
