UKRIA 2018: Meet the judging panel

With just under a week left to get your applications in for the rail industry’s biggest awards event, UKRIA, it seems like the perfect time to introduce the huge names that are making up our judging panel this year.

The most exciting addition to the senior pan-industry panel this year is one of the most recognisable names in the industry – Sir Peter Hendy, chairman of Network Rail.

Sir Peter, who has also worked as TfL commissioner, will lead up the panel to decide who takes away the coveted UKRIA awards in each of the 24 categories.

But the Network Rail chairman will not be taking on this important task alone. Also on the panel is Shamit Gaiger, director of strategy at the National Skills Academy for Rail, as well as Martin Brennan, head of European Research for FutureRailway at RSSB. Other key figures include Adeline Ginn, founder of diversity movement Women in Rail, alongside the University of Birmingham’s director of the International Railway Academy Anson Jack.

Michèle Dix, managing director of Crossrail 2, will also sit on the judging panel, along with head of rail at TfGM Amanda White and Joanna Whittington, CEO of the Office for Rail and Road.

The Rail Delivery Group’s Jacqueline Starr is another notable inclusion, as is Nick Donovan, Northern Powerhouse Rail director at Transport for the North.

With all these leading industry bosses judging UKRIA – it’s clear that winning an award is a powerful recognition of the innovatve and interesting work going on across the UK rail network.
