High Speed 2: ‘We will deliver’
The chairman of High Speed Two has said that he and colleagues may have to work throughout the Christmas period to deliver plans for the high speed network before their deadline.
The plans, which will contain every last detail, will be drawn out to scale and fully costed by the deadline of December 31st this year.
Even though any high-speed plans will be ambitious, High Speed Two’s chairman, Sir David Rowlands, has said that plans must not be too ambitious, with current ones covering from London to the West Midlands. There will then be options to extend the plans further than that in the future.
He told reporters: “In practice, the question comes down to what the country can afford to build, what can be built and engineered, in the next generation.”
However restricted the plans, any infrastructure work going on would be great news for any body seeking jobs in rail, as many rail vacancies would become available.
