Good news for passengers

Passengers could possibly look forward to a cut in rail fares due to very low inflation figures

The good news comes after experts calculated that if inflation continues to decrease for the next month, then certain rail fares might come down in January 2010.

This is because regulated fares are linked to the Retail Price Index, meaning that if it goes up, then so do regulated fares; however, if the RPI comes down, so too do regulated fares.

As there has been a continuous fall in the price of living for sometime, due to the recession, then passengers might see, for the first time in years, a cut in their regulated fares.

There was further good news for passengers, with c2c reporting that its punctuality reached 99.8% for the period between 31 May and 27 June 2009.

Anthony Smith, Passenger Focus chief executive, said: “Punctual trains are a top priority for passengers and c2c and Network Rail have done well to consistently deliver a service that passengers can rely on.”
