MPs think they are ‘first class’

Although many were quick to attack the Conservative MP Sir Nicholas Winterton about his comments on second class rail passengers, it seems that many MPs are still determined to be allowed to claim for first class rail travel.

The reasons for them wanting this perk range from one woman MP saying that she feel ‘safer’ travelling in first class at night, to another MP claiming that he is too tall to travel in second class.

However judging by many of the comments left on newspaper websites which carried the story, the public do not seem willing to afford MPs such a luxury, with many saying that it should be up to MPs to either pay the difference between a second and first class ticket.

The debate over what MPs can and cannot claimed for has been raging ever since the Telegraph newspaper exposed the expenses scandal last summer.
