Ticket staff to remain at Romsey
Ticketing staff will be retained at Romsey railway station, despite recommendations that would have seen them replaced with ticket machines.
First Great Western has confirmed it intends to keep the ticket offices manned for the duration of its franchise.
The jobs in question were under threat after the McNulty report proposed the closure of ticket offices with a small number of staff at 675 stations, as part of the bid to save the industry £1bn by 2018. Romsey station fell in that category.
First Great Western released a brief statement, saying: “We have no plans to close any booking offices. It will be for the government to decide how it wishes to proceed in any new franchise going forward.”
This franchise runs another two years.
