XiTRACK

XiTRACK is a unique Geo-Composite solution for ballast strengthening using a polymer compound. Importantly, it is a designed solution, matching treatment to individual track performance requirements giving optimum and durable solutions, preventing the need for and reducing the cost of, repetitive maintenance.

The XiTRACK process, of 3-Dimensional ballast reinforcement, comprises elements of force measurement, mathematical modelling and polymer design, application and process verification.

Following identification, individual sites are usually instrumented with data gathering sensors to record the forces exerted on the track by passing traffic. This data, together with usage and maintenance information obtained from the track maintainer, is processed via a computerised mathematical model to generate polymer formula and application design.

Application to track is poured via an applicator wand directly on to the area to be treated, from a distance of approximately 75mm.

The resulting Geo-Composite comprises a 3-Dimensional polymer cage around and through the ballast formation, maintaining its original design shape, without clogging the voids within the ballast. Vertical and/or lateral restraint, as required by the site being treated, is automatically designed in to the Geo-Composite.

Benefits of treating track with XiTRACK include the fact that it is fast curing, virtually eliminating service delay, free draining and flexible, able to accept necessary track movement under traffic, thereafter rapidly returning to designed alignment.

Implemented at sites across the UK network, from the north of Scotland down to Wessex, including the WCML and at Purfleet Deep Wharf in Anglia (see photograph), XiTRACK has been demonstrated to be of particular benefit when applied to:

• Switches and Crossings
• High-speed turnouts
• Transitions of any type
• Level crossing stabilisation
• Sharp curves
• Sites with poor alignment retention history
• Insulated block joints (IBJs)

XiTRACK has also been used extensively on the WCML for maintenance of bridge resonance.

XiTRACK polymer is delivered by BBRTL in partnership with XiTRACK Limited
