£550,000 Farnborough upgrade complete
Farnborough station has benefited from a £550,000 upgrade through the South West Trains/Network Rail Alliance.
The alliance has spent over half a million pounds to improve accessibility at the station, including a larger, brighter ticket office and more ticket gates to minimise congestion between platforms.
The waiting room has also been revamped, as have the toilets, which are now fully accessible and feature a baby changing room. The station has also now installed a new retail unit, featuring a newspaper and coffee shop.
The interior boost follows a 2011 development involving the installation of a new bus and taxi interchange to improve transport to and from the station, along with a renovation of the foyer and lifts inside. Farnborough station has been operating since 1836.
Jake Kelly, customer service director for the South West Trains/Network Rail Alliance, said: “The completion of the upgrade of facilities at Farnborough will encourage more passengers to travel by rail to work and for pleasure. The vastly improved modern facilities will make passenger journeys more comfortable. Stations remain the gateway to the railway and we are committed to invest £50m in our stations by 2017.
“Our customers using Farnborough have already benefitted from the considerable investment in the station. This has delivered a redesigned bus and coach interchange, more cycling and car park spaces and a new footbridge and lifts making the station fully accessible.”
