National Express to lose East Anglia franchise
Lord Adonis has decreed that National Express will not have their East Anglia franchise agreement renewed in 2011.
There have been calls ever since National Express defaulted on their East Coast Mainline commitments earlier in the year for the train operator to be stripped immediately of both its remaining franchises East Anglia and c2c.
However Lord Adonis said that this would not happen because his main concern was minimising disruption to both passengers and rail staff, along with the fact that he has not yet decided what is to happen National Express’ remaining franchise c2c.
However he said that arrangements would begin immediately to ensure that a franchisee was found in time for the 2011 switch over of the East Anglia franchise.
