National Accreditation for Community Rail Partnership
The Community Rail Partnership (CRP) on Fenland’s Hereward railway line, has been given official accredited status from the Department of Transport.
The accreditation shows that the government has recognised the CRP’s ability to run to a high standard and that its objectives and activities are supported by the government.
Hereward’s CRP is operated by Fenland District Council with funding coming from various train operators, including Greater Anglia, Cross Country Trains, East Midlands Railway and London North Eastern Railway, with the aim of connecting communities with stations across the region.
The accreditation also gives Hereward’s CRP access to additional funding through government grants.
Paul Nelson, Chairman of the Hereward CRP, said:
“It’s great to have our hard work recognised in this way and, with access to a new grant fund, should take us on to do even bigger and better things for the community in the future.”
Since the partnership’s establishment in 2012, it has been involved in several projects to improve rail connectivity in the Fens.
These include additional stops on the Liverpool-Norwich service, as well as two-hourly services from Manea Station.
The partnership also aims to start the lengthening of the platforms at Manea and Whittlesea, as well as new platform shelters at these stations.
