Northern on the hunt for new apprentices
Arriva Rail North (Northern) has announced it is looking for apprentice applicants to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week.
The scheme will enable 16 of these apprentices to train as engineering technicians and five to focus more specifically on train planning and station operations.
The programmes, that last 3 years, will be based in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle.
The new apprenticeships will add to the 48 engineering apprentice’s currently undergoing a three-year programme.
The new intake will be working with Northern’s new £500 million fleet of trains.
Ben Ackroyd, Engineering Director at Northern, said:
“Our latest intake will also have the benefit of getting to work on a fleet which is being enhanced by a £600m investment. We have already introduced more than 60 of our 101 brand new trains, are bringing in innovative bi-mode trains and refurbishing the rest of our existing fleet.”
As well as engineering and planning apprenticeships, Northern currently runs ten operational apprenticeships in Customer Service and Business Administration.
Helen Wright, Apprenticeship Manager at Northern, said:
“Working in the rail industry is a great place to start a career as there is an opportunity to transfer skills and experience gained as an apprentice in a wide range of roles across the business.”
Applications for the apprenticeships are open until the 13th March with candidates needing to have at least four GCSEs with predicted grades of A-C or 9-5 which must include maths, English and science and technology.
