Derby depot opens with great fanfare
Yesterday was a special day in the history of Derby as a rail town, with the official opening of the Etches Park depot.
The depot, which is located adjacent to the old railway technical centre and Derby station will serve East Midlands Trains, along with crews from Bombardier.
The opening ceremony was attended by Stagecoach (which owns East Midlands Trains) boss Brian Souter, who gave a short speech extolling the virtues of the new depot.
He began his speech by apologising saying: “I’m sorry that it is only me opening the depot today, but we thought that given the current economic atmosphere hiring Cheryl Cole to do it may have seemed a tad extravagant.”
The new depot is airy, full of light and has been laid out to cut as waste out of processes as possible.
